Fishing Room Plaque The Culter Beat is directly upstream from Maryculter Bridge and is over one mile long, offering a wide variety of pools to fish. The Beat features a drying room and rod box and resident Ghillie Daniel Wright is experienced in his field with extensive fishing experience all around the world.

Due to the length of the fishing season the Beat offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities to suit all budgets. In the spring the water is cold and fresh run spring salmon can be found in the pools. During the summer months there are opportunities to catch running salmon, grilse and sea trout with night fishing available.

The beat has fly fishing pools, including the very productive Peter’s Pot, Greenbank, High Bank and Camphill. Given suitable conditions, the Beat has the potential to produce salmon catches in the region of 300 per season.

With fishing from both River banks and reasonable wading to cover the lies, the Beat will suit the mobile fly fisher with access to the pools from both sides. In late summer the pools fill up dramatically with large numbers of fresh fish which will spawn in the lower river later in the year.

Fishing Room Tilbouries is an attractive stretch of river with 1.5 miles of right bank fishing and 12 named pools offering excellent fly fishing water, with a pool to suit all water heights. The beat has a well-appointed comfortable fishing bothy with a wood burning stove.

Some pools are particularly suited to beginners and children due to excellent wading or the ability to fish from the bank. The famous Lawson pool which is reputed to be the longest pool on the Dee, also provides easy wading. For more experienced anglers there is the challenging Alfred’s Pot which can be very productive.

Fishing Map The Tilbouries run leading to Alfred’s Pot is a delightful piece of stream water which produces good numbers in the summer. The Beat also offers a great opportunity for anglers want to challenge themselves by casting a longer line. Due to the close proximity to the sea, just 12 miles away, the beat produces good numbers of fresh salmon.

The Beat supports the River Dee conservation code and requests adherence to the code guideline. All fish caught, whether salmon or sea trout; should be handled with care and returned to the river.
